I chose extremely hard woods for these fountain pens, three Australian eucalyptus burls. The outline looks serious, a solemn style that inspires confidence.
The pens can be mounted in fountain pen or rollerball, at your choice.
A burl or burr is an outgrowth on the trunk, whose fibers are tangled. The burls are always decorative woods because they are highly figured, one little part of it never looks like its neighbor.
- On the left, a beautiful two-tone red mallee burl (Eucalyptus oleosa) with some cream-colored sapwood at the end of the pen, and wavy dark red heartwood elsewhere. It is cigar shaped.
- SOLD In the center, a brown mallee burl (Eucalyptus astringens), also two-toned, with many buds departures. The separation between sapwood and heart wood is very irregular and attractive, especially on the cap. It is cigar shaped.
- Right is a jarrah burl (Eucalyptus marginata) with very tight and uniform grain, which is rare with this wood, too often including multiple cracks. A flat-top shape in deep dark burgundy, illuminated by golden clip and nib: the colors reinforces the impression of serious expressed by the silhouette.
The pens have been carefully polished and protected with several layers of highly resistant acrylate varnish . A mother-of-pearl dot adorns each end of the pen, the workshop signature. Other similar pens, but oiled or without clip are also available in my shop.
Feel free to drop me a line to tell me if you prefer a rollerball or fountain pen nib. The rollerball uses a standard refill that can be found at any stationary shop. My fountain pens come with a standard cartridge and a converter that allows you to use your favorite ink.
FOUNTAIN PEN NIBS: My fountain pens are fitted with a medium size standard quality nib. I hone it myself. On request (extra charge: 鈧 25, see elsewhere in my shop), I can fit a Bock nib from Germany, one of the best nib brand in the word. The size can be extra-fine, fine, medium, large or italic, the color can be golden, polished steel or bicolor (please contact me for availability). A 18K gold nib or semi-flex solid titanium is also available.
